SUMTER COUNTY JUVENILE COURT

DEPUTY CLERK and PANEL COORDINATOR (FULL-TIME)

The Sumter County Juvenile Court is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Deputy Clerk and Panel Coordinator. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. This position provides clerical and customer service support for Southwestern Judicial Juvenile Court Circuit operations and for coordinating the citizen’s panel judicial review program. Major duties includes: Procures and maintains all official case and judicial panel review records for each juvenile review; enters data for juvenile case files; provides clerical support for court operations; creates and updates panel files; creates a summary of recommendations from case plan; schedules case review dates and times; mails notification letters to all parties invited to panel review; travels to six counties for court and panels; attends panel reviews and assists the panel in formulating panel findings and recommendations; distributes judicial citizen review panel recommendations to the Juvenile Court Judge, parents, and other appropriate agencies and parties; answers telephone and greets visitors; provides information and assistance; files all Juvenile, DFACS, HIPPA, Panel, a DJJ files; collects fines or restitution payments; balances accounts; responds to requests for information and records from Special Assistant Attorney General, Department of Juvenile Justice, attorneys, Court Appointed Special Advocate, Department of Family and Children’s Services, Public Defender, District Attorney, court reporters, families, etc.; assigns case numbers to court cases; transfers cases as instructed for Juvenile files and DFCS; processes informal adjustments and dismissals from DA; signs and processes summons and subpoenas; performs related duties.

Minimum requirements include the ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent. Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years. SUMTER COUNTY BUILDING AND GROUNDS

BUILDING AND GROUNDS ASSISTANT MANAGER (FULL-TIME)

The Sumter County Building and Grounds Department is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Building and Grounds Assistant Manager. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. This position provides assistance to the Buildings and Grounds Manager with the management and maintenance of county buildings and grounds.  The position is also responsible for managing the county’s Special Local Option Sales Tax projects; assists with directing the maintenance and repair of county buildings, including plumbing, electrical, painting, HVAC, carpentry and structural maintenance and repair; assists with monitoring contractor performance to ensure compliance with construction specifications, local ordinances and safety standards; issues and approves purchase orders; verifies and approves invoices and submits for payment; coordinates with vendors and other county departments to order parts and supplies as needed; meets with personnel from other departments to develop work projects and prepare cost estimates; tours facilities to identify maintenance and repair needs.  Responds to and coordinates the response to repair needs; assists with preparation of the annual budget request and monitors expenditures under approved budget; maintains access control and security system at the Human Services Building; coordinates with vendors for maintenance needs; supervises assigned inmate laborers; responds to and coordinates the response to repair requests; secures quotes for maintenance repairs, preventive maintenance and improvements of county facilities; assists with coordination of  SPLOST projects; performs related duties.

Minimum requirements include knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education. Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for three to five years. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated. Possession of or ability to readily obtain appropriate certifications from the Georgia Department of Corrections for the supervision of inmate laborers.

HUMAN RESOURCES DIRECTOR (FULL-TIME)

The Sumter County Human Resources Department is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Human Resources Director. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. This position is responsible for directing the county's Human Resources functions. Major duties include the following: develops, implements, and administers personnel policies and procedures; ensures compliance with state and federal regulations; maintains the county’s classification system and pay plan; receives requests for pay increases and new positions and makes recommendations to the County Administrator; authorizes personnel actions, including new hires, promotions, demotions, transfers, disciplinary actions, terminations etc. via Personnel Action Forms; reviews files, documents, employee data, and other information to answer questions, handle problems, and resolve issues; explains established procedures to employees or supervisors; responds to inquiries regarding policies, procedures, and programs; explains the FMLA process and prepares related paperwork; manages the county’s workers’ compensation program.  Prepares and submits workers’ compensation claims. Work with department heads to analyze and mitigate preventable recurring claims; prepares the annual department budget and monitors expenditures under the current budget; develops the position budgeting process, including making/updating salary and benefit changes; schedules and coordinates the annual open enrollment period; investigates employee grievances and complaints; coordinates the hiring process; prepares and posts job openings; receives and reviews applications; coordinates drug screenings and physical examinations; investigates and responds to all personnel-related illegal charges/complaints including, but not limited to, EEOC charges/complaints as deemed appropriate by the Sumter County Board of Commissioners; manages the county employees’ Health and Wellness program; coordinates various wellness programs and activities and monitors expenses related to the program; completes a variety of regular and special reports; coordinates and delivers training to county personnel; and performs related duties.

Minimum requirements include knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a baccalaureate degree in a course of study related to the occupational field. Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the diverse objectives and functions of the subunits in the division/department in order to direct and coordinate work within the division/department, usually interpreted to require three to five years of related experience.

The Sumter County Public Works Department is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Heavy Equipment Operator.  Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.  Responsibilities of this position include operating a variety of moderately heavy-duty construction equipment including front-end loader, motor grader, backhoe, dump truck, lowboy and other related equipment to ensure county roads, bridges, ditches, signs, drainage systems and rights-of-ways are properly maintained.

DETAIL OFFICER (FULL-TIME)

The Sumter County Public Works Department is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Detail Officer.  Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.  This position is responsible for guarding and supervising assigned Sumter County Correctional Institution state inmates engaged in performing Public Works construction, maintenance, and repair activities; supervise mowing and litter control details. Transporting inmates to and from work sites in accordance with established guidelines. Inspecting inmate work to ensure accuracy, thoroughness, and completeness. Issuing supplies, materials, tools, and equipment to inmates; monitor usage, storage, and quantity. Observes the conduct of inmates to prevent disturbances or escapes. Reports acts of misconduct to appropriate personnel in a timely manner; employs discipline or force to maintain order if needed; prepares written reports related to inmate misconduct, disturbances, or injuries. Ensures all inmates are present, secured, and returned to the Correctional Institute at the end of the day. Operates light and moderately heavy equipment and hand tools as required. Performs related duties.

Minimum Requirements include the ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent. Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with one to three years’ experience or service. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated. Possession of certification by the Georgia Department of Corrections. Proof of these requirements must be provided at time of applying.

CERTIFIED FIREFIGHTER (PART-TIME and FULL-TIME)

The Sumter County Board of Commissioners is seeking qualified applicants to fill the position of Certified Firefighter part-time and full-time. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and education/experience. This position drives, operates, and maintains fire equipment and apparatus to mitigate fire and other emergency incidents. Responds to alarms and assists in the suppression of fires, including rescue, entry, ventilating and salvage work; assumes command at emergency scenes until relieved by superior officer; directs emergency operations until relieved by a superior officer. Operates and participates in the maintenance of a variety of equipment, tools, and apparatus; troubleshoots and resolves problems. Maintains inventory of tools and equipment on apparatus; conducts daily inspection of apparatus; performs routine maintenance on vehicles, apparatus and equipment; reports mechanical failures when assistance or repair is warranted; performs minor repairs and may assist on major repairs. Maintains current knowledge of county roads, geography, and water system; tests fire hydrants. 

Minimum requirements, knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education. Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with one to three years experience or service. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated. This license is required to be upgraded to a Class F license within 90 days of hire date.  Ability to meet current requirements set forth by the National Fire Protection Association and the Georgia Firefighter Standards and Training Act. Be at least 18 years of age, not have been convicted of a felony in any jurisdiction within ten years prior to employment, have a good moral character as determined by investigation under procedure approved by Human Resources, be fingerprinted and a search made of local, state and national fingerprint files to disclose any criminal record (Criminal background check).Proof of requirements must be provided at time of applying.

The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office is seeking qualified applicants to fill the position of Work Detail Supervisor. Purpose of this position is to supervise county inmate crews and perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled work in the maintenance, repair and minor upkeep of the Sheriff’s Office and LEC. CORPORAL (FULL-TIME)

The Sumter County Correctional Institute is seeking qualified candidates to fill the position of Corporal. This position is responsible for serving as an assistant shift supervisor on an assigned shift. Major duties include but are not limited to; assuring adherence to department rules, regulation, policies, and procedures; monitors performance of assigned personnel. Participates in and supervises the work of personnel engaged in guarding, monitoring, searching, and disciplining inmates in the absence of the shift supervisor.  Observes inmate conduct and behavior to prevent escape or disturbances. Guards and supervises inmate work details; inspects work for accuracy and completeness; dismisses problem inmates from work details. Inspects locks, window bars, doors, grills, and gates for tampering; conducts outdoor perimeter security checks (e.g., parking lots and vehicles). Searches inmates and dorms for contraband articles. Performs mandatory headcounts. Assists subordinate personnel with difficult or complex situations. May employ weapons or force to maintain discipline and order among inmates if necessary. Performs other related duties as assigned. 

Minimum qualifications include possession of high school diploma or its equivalent; one to three years experience as a Correctional Officer; possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the Sate of Georgia; must possess P.O.S.T. certification.

CONTROL ROOM OPERATOR (PART-TIME)

The Sumter County Correctional Institute is seeking qualified candidates to fill the position of Part Time Control Room Operator. This position is responsible for operating a security and surveillance control room to monitor the county correctional institution’s security and safety measures inside and outside of the facility. Major duties include but are not limited to; operating security and surveillance system, observes TV monitors in control room to watch conduct and behavior of inmates to prevent disturbances and escapes; observes monitors to ensure the safety of institute staff members and visitors inside and outside of the facility.  Alerts correctional personnel of inmate unruly activities viewed on the control room monitors; dispatches correctional personnel to trouble spots and other facility locations as necessary. Operates control panel board to open, close, and lock prison doors; operates an intercom system to transmit and receive messages and to give orders to inmates inside the facility; maintains ongoing log of control room operation activities including records of incidences, inmate counts, visitors, key requests, etc.; answers telephone, transfers calls, answers questions, and takes messages; performs other related duties as assigned.
