SUMTER COUNTY PARKS & RECREATION 

MAINTENANCE COORDINATOR (FULL-TIME)

The Sumter County Parks and Recreation Department is seeking qualified candidates to fill the position of Maintenance Coordinator.  This position is responsible for coordinating the maintenance of Parks facilities and grounds.

Major duties for this position include but are not limited to: schedules and supervises the work of inmate workers; maintains and repairs irrigation systems; maintains athletic fields and prepares fields for play; supervises and participates in landscape maintenance, including mowing, trimming weeds, trees and shrubs and removing leaves; inspects the safety of playground equipment, reports maintenance and repair to Director; assists in setting up for special events, tournaments, and programs; and operates a variety of equipment, including trucks, bush-hog, and hand and power tools..

Minimum requirements include: ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent; experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with one to three years’ experience or service; possession of/or ability to readily obtain a valid driver license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle operated, and possession of/or ability to readily obtain certification by the Georgia Department of Corrections.

SUMTER COUNTY TAX ASSESSORS 

ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT (FULL-TIME)

The Sumter County Tax Assessors is seeking qualified candidates to fill the position of Administrative Assistant.  This position is responsible for performing clerical and general office support.

Major duties for this position include but are not limited to: greet visitors to the office, answers telephones and routes calls; assists customers with office services; helps with real estate deed and title searches; explains changes, additions, or deletions to real or personal property records; works to resolve customer complaints; performs related office support tasks; gives informatin to customers, visitors, or the general public in person or by telephone, regarding tax-related matters in accordance to established guidelines; assist disabled veterans with exemptions and mortgage letters; save PT-61s from the Clerks Authority website and download them into WinGap; generate a PT-61 monthly report; assist customers with completing personal property; ensures property deed and parcel number of property are correct; assists taxpayers with homestead applications, preferential assessments, and appeals; reviews homestead cards for eligibility.

Minimum requirements include: ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent; sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years; possession of a vehicle and possession of/or ability to readily obtain a valid driver license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle operated. Knowledge of: modern office practices and procedures; county and departmental policies and procedures; computers and job-related software programs, including but not limited to Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word. The Sumter County Tax Assessors is seeking qualified candidates to fill the position of Real Property Appraiser I.  This position is responsible for the appraisal of residential real property. 

Major duties for this position include but are not limited to: inspects, measures, sketches, photographs, and appraises new construction and existing structures, including structural additions and detaches accessory buildings; researches and reviews pertinent property owner documents, such as deeds, plats, and real estate and financial transactions; prepares new property record cards and updates existing property cards with necessary changes; provides customer services; provides information and assistance; responds to concerns and resolves problems. performs related duties.

SUMTER COUNTY JUVENILE COURT

DEPUTY CLERK AND PANEL COORDINATOR (FULL-TIME)

The Sumter County Juvenile Court is seeking qualified candidates to fill the position of Deputy Clerk and Panel Coordinator.  This position is responsible for providing clerical and customer service support for the Southwestern Judicial Juvenile Court Circuit operations and for coordinating the citizens' panel judicial review program.  

Major duties for this position include but are not limited to procures and maintains all official case and judicial panel review records for each juvenile review; enters data for juvenile case files; provides clerical support for court operations; creates and updates panel files; creates a summary of recommendations from case plan; schedules case review dates and times; mails notification letters to all parties invited to panel review; travels to six counties for court and panels; attends panel reviews and assists the panel in formulating panel findings and recommendations; distributes judicial citizen review panel recommendations to the Juvenile Court Judge, parents, and other appropriate agencies and parties; answers telephone and greets visitors; provides information and assistance; files all Juvenile, DFACS, HIPPA, Panel, a DJJ files; collects fines or restitution payments; balances accounts; responds to requests for information and records from Special Assistant Attorney General, Department of Juvenile Justice, attorneys, Court Appointed Special Advocate, Department of Family and Children’s Services, Public Defender, District Attorney, court reporters, families, etc.; assigns case numbers to court cases; transfers cases as instructed for Juvenile files and DFCS; processes informal adjustments and dismissals from DA; signs and processes summons and subpoenas; performs related duties.

SUMTER COUNTY BUILDINGS AND GROUNDS

BUILDINGS AND GROUNDS MAINTENANCE DETAIL OFFICER I (FULL-TIME)

The Sumter County Buildings and Grounds Department is seeking qualified candidates to fill the position of Buildings and Ground Maintenance Detail Officer.  This position is responsible for supervising and participating in the work of an inmate detail while repairing structures and maintaining county buildings and other county property.  

Major duties for this position include but are not limited to: supervises and instructs assigned inmates on the work detail; maintains the safety of inmates and the general public; checks worksites for safety and security concerns; monitors inmates to ensure safety and security; performs routine maintenance duties such as applying plaster, fixing fountains, and other duties; supervises and participates in the construction and moving of furniture; performs preventive maintenance on grounds maintenance equipment; cleans, inspects, and searches the detail vehicle for contraband; supervises and participates in the janitorial maintenance of the courthouse; pours concrete; constructs tile floors; installs sheetrock; performs grounds keeping and building maintenance duties; rake, mulch, and prune the grounds as needed; performs related duties.

Minimum requirements include:  knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education; experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with one to three years’ experience or service; possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated; possession of or ability to readily obtain appropriate certifications from the Georgia Department of Corrections for the supervision of inmate laborers.

SUMTER COUNTY FIRE DEPARTMENT

CERTIFIED FIREFIGHTER (PART-TIME)

The Sumter County Board of Commissioners is seeking qualified applicants to fill the position of Certified Firefighter part-time. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and education/experience. This position drives, operates and maintains fire equipment and apparatus to mitigate fire and other emergency incidents. Responds to alarms and assists in the suppression of fires, including rescue, entry, ventilating, and salvage work; assumes command at emergency scenes until relieved by a superior officer; directs emergency operations until relieved by a superior officer. Operates and participates in the maintenance of a variety of equipment, tools, and apparatus; troubleshoots and resolves problems. Maintains the inventory of tools and equipment on apparatus; conducts daily inspection of apparatus; performs routine maintenance on vehicles, apparatus, and equipment; reports mechanical failures when assistance or repair is warranted; performs minor repairs and may assist on major repairs. Maintains current knowledge of county roads, geography, and water system; tests fire hydrants. 

Minimum requirements: knowledge, and level of competency are commonly associated with the completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with high school education. Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with one to three years of experience or service. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated. This license is required to be upgraded to a Class F license within 90 days of the hire date.  Ability to meet current requirements set forth by the National Fire Protection Association and the Georgia Firefighter Standards and Training Act. Be at least 18 years of age, not have been convicted of a felony in any jurisdiction within ten years prior to employment, have a good moral character as determined by investigation under a procedure approved by Human Resources, be fingerprinted and a search made of local, state and national fingerprint files to disclose any criminal record (Criminal background check). Proof of requirements must be provided at the time of applying.

CORRECTIONAL OFFICER I (FULL-TIME)

The Sumter County Correctional Institute is seeking qualified applicants to fill the position of Correctional Officer. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to supervising inmates, observing inmates' conduct and behavior, directing inmates during work assignments, patrolling the facility, and performing additional tasks as assigned.

Minimum requirements include completion of high school or equivalent. Possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Georgia Driver’s License. Must be at least 18 years old. Proof of these requirements must be submitted when applying for the position. Must pass P.O.S.T. Certification within the time frame required by this department, which is normally within six months of employment. The Sumter County Correctional Institute is seeking qualified candidates to fill the position of Compliance Coordinator. This position is responsible for coordinating Institute compliance with relevant laws and regulations. 

Major duties include but are not limited to: serving as policy compliance officer to ensure compliance with rules and regulations; ensuring the Warden and other staff are informed of relevant policy issues and concerns; developing Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST)orders for job positions, coordinating and communicating with the state officials to ensure compliance with state policies and procedures; taking photographs and creating county and offender identification cards; serving on the Sexual Assault Response Team.
