ROAD SUPERVISOR

The Sumter County Board of Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Public Works Road Supervisor. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.  This position supervises the work of personnel involved in the maintenance of roads, bridges, drainage systems, rights-of-way, and driveways.

Duties include but are not limited to supervision public works construction, maintenance, and repair activities, all Heavy Equipment Operators and Detail Officers. Inspects roads and rights-of-way to determine maintenance and repair needs; schedules and prioritizes repairs. Assists in hiring, training, assigning, evaluating, and disciplining department personnel; assigns work orders; approves annual leave. Responds to and resolves complaints from the general public. Operates a variety of light and heavy equipment. Ensures that work crews are monitored in accordance with safety and county policies and procedures. Inspects work to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and thoroughness. Assists in selecting and requesting supplies and materials. Monitors the work of private contractors. Responds to after-hours emergency calls. Attends department meetings and training sessions. Performs related duties. Reviews and approved all timesheets for accuracy. Reviews and approves all Equipment Deficiency Reports. Coordinates all repairs and deficiencies with shop Supervisor.

Minimum Requirements include knowledge of public works infrastructure maintenance and repair procedures and methods. Knowledge of equipment operation and maintenance principles.  Knowledge of county procurement processes. Knowledge of relevant federal and state laws, county ordinances, and department policies and procedures. Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs. Skills in management and supervision. Skills in problem solving. Skills in prioritizing and planning. Skills in interpersonal relations. Skill in oral and written communication. Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education. Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with one to three years’ experience or service. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated. Possession of or ability to readily obtain (PSO) Pre-Service Orientation certification to work minimum security inmates.

This position is responsible for providing clerical and customer service support for office operations. CERTIFIED FIREFIGHTER (PART-TIME)

The Sumter County Board of Commissioners is seeking qualified applicants to fill the position of Part-Time. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and education/experience. This position is responsible for protecting lives and property endangered by fires and other emergency situations.  Minimum requirements include; Be at least 18 years of age, not have been convicted of a felony in any jurisdiction within ten years prior to employment, have a good moral character as determined by investigation under procedure approved by Human Resources, be fingerprinted and a search made of local, state and national fingerprint files to disclose any criminal record (Criminal background check), possess a high school diploma or a GED, obtain National Professional Qualifications (NPQ) Firefighter I certification within 6 months of employment, possession of State of Georgia Firefighter certification or the ability to obtain reciprocity within 2 months of employment, possession of a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia.  This license is required to be upgraded to a Class F license within 90 days of hire date.  Proof of requirements must be provided at time of applying.

FACILITY MAINTENANCE WORKER

The Sumter County Board of Commissioner and the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office is seeking qualified applicants to fill the position of Facility Maintenance Worker. Salary is commensurate based on experience, qualifications and an equitable compensation and pay plan.

Purpose of this position is to supervise county inmate crews and perform a variety of skilled and semi skilled work in the maintenance, repair and minor upkeep of the Sheriff’s Office and LEC.  Duties include but are not limited to minor carpentry, plumbing, filter maintenance, light fixture maintenance and heating and air system maintenance.  Minimum requirements include high school education or its equivalent. One to two years experience in building maintenance including facility maintenance, facility repair and heating and air systems.  Must possess or be able to obtain a valid driver’s licenses issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.  Must pass P.O.S.T. Certification within the time frame required by this department, which is normally within six months of employment.

The Sumter County Sheriff Department is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Certified Deputy / Civil Division Deputy / SRO Deputy.  Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.  This position is responsible for the enforcement of federal, state, and local laws and the protection of life and property.  

Minimum Requirements include the ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.  Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years. Must be ALREADY Certified as a Peace Officer for the State of Georgia.

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to supervising inmates, observing inmates conduct and behavior, directing inmates during work assignments, patrolling the facility, and performing additional tasks as assigned.
