The Sumter County Correctional Institute is seeking (2) qualified candidates to fill the position of Part Time Control Room Operator.  This position is responsible for operating a security and surveillance control room to monitor the county correctional institution’s security and safety measures inside and outside of the facility. Major duties include but are not limited to; operating security and surveillance system, observes TV monitors in control room to watch conduct and behavior of inmates to prevent disturbances and escapes; observes monitors to ensure the safety of institute staff members and visitors inside and outside of the facility.  Alerts correctional personnel of inmate unruly activities viewed on the control room monitors; dispatches correctional personnel to trouble spots and other facility locations as necessary. Operates control panel board to open, close, and lock prison doors; operates an intercom system to transmit and receive messages and to give orders to inmates inside the facility; maintains ongoing log of control room operation activities including records of incidences, inmate counts, visitors, key requests, etc.; answers telephone, transfers calls, answers questions, and takes messages; performs other related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications include ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.

The Sumter County Board of Commissioner’s Finance Department is seeking candidates for the position of Finance Technician.  

This position serves under the direction of the Finance Director is responsible for performing finance-related work of a skilled and responsible nature.  Primary functions are Data Entry, Accounts Payable, Payroll, and Accounts Receivable. Duties may include, but are not limited to:  Processes the county’s payroll and maintains the payroll system, receives and processes payroll detail from all county departments; reviews employee time records for accuracy and completeness, updates payroll records, manages payroll preparation, runs payroll checks, completes required reports, enters related data into computer, and maintains records, prepares and processes federal and state tax deposits and reports as required, prepares necessary payroll related invoices. Receives checks, money, and related documentation and prepares deposit transactions, codes and posts receipt of payments to appropriate funds and accounts in computerized financial system. Prepares, monitors, and oversees billing functions for reimbursement of funds due to the government, including reimbursements for expenses shared by circuit counties, including the Public Defender’s Office.  Maintains files and records of accounts receivable documents.  Performs other related duties as assigned.

Preference will be given to applicants with a working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), governmental fund accounting, governmental chart of accounts structure, and governmental budgeting practices and implementation.

Minimum Qualifications include knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of an associate degree in a course of study related to the occupational field.  Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years. Must have working knowledge of payroll and accounts receivable functions; working knowledge of accounting practices and procedures; working knowledge of entering data into a computer; working knowledge of personal computers, spreadsheets and internet access points. Ability to do mathematical calculations; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies and the public; ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and education/experience and according to the Sumter County Classification and Compensation Plan. This position is responsible for protecting lives and property endangered by fires and other emergency situations.  Minimum requirements include; Be at least 18 years of age, not have been convicted of a felony in any jurisdiction within ten years prior to employment/appointment, have a good moral character as determined by investigation under procedure approved by Human Resources, be fingerprinted and a search made of local, state and national fingerprint files to disclose any criminal record (Criminal background check), possess a high school diploma or a GED, obtain National Professional Qualifications (NPQ) Firefighter I certification within 6 months of employment, possession of State of Georgia Firefighter certification or the ability to obtain reciprocity within 2 months of employment, possession of a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia.  This license is required to be upgraded to a Class F license within 90 days of hire date.  Proof of requirements must be provided at time of applying.

This position is responsible for managing, supervising, and coordinating assigned programs and activities within the Public Works Department including technical duties related to roads and bridges, draining systems, heavy equipment maintenance and project development for TIA/TSPLOST; coordinates assigned activities with other divisions and outside agencies; provides highly responsible and complex administrative support to the Public Works Director as they relate to TIA/SPLOST.  Minimum requirements include knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of baccalaureate degree in Civil Engineering, Engineering Management or a related Engineering course of study related to the occupational field; experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the diverse objectives and functions of the subunits in the division/department in order to direct and coordinate work within the division/department, usually interpreted to require three to five years of related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.  possession or ability to readily obtain valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.

The Sumter County Correctional Institute is seeking qualified applicants to fill the position of Facility Maintenance Worker. Salary is commensurate based on experience, qualifications and an equitable compensation and pay plan.

Purpose of this position is to supervise inmate crews and perform a variety of skilled and semi skilled work in the maintenance, repair and minor upkeep of the Correctional Institute.  Duties include but are not limited to minor carpentry, plumbing, filter maintenance, light fixture maintenance and heating and air system maintenance.  Minimum requirements include high school education or its equivalent. One to two years experience in building maintenance including facility maintenance, facility repair and heating and air systems.  Must possess or be able to obtain a valid driver’s licenses issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.  Must pass P.O.S.T. Certification within the time frame required by this department, which is normally within six months of employment.
