The Sumter County Tax Commissioners Office is seeking candidates for the position of Tag and Tax Clerk I.  Salary is commensurate with qualifications and education/experience
and according to the Sumter County Classification and Compensation Plan. This position is responsible for issuing tags and titles and collecting tag and tax fees. Minimum Requirements include the ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent; Experience sufficient to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years. The Sumter County Parks and Recreation Department is seeking qualified candidates to fill the position of Part Time Desk Clerk. Major duties for this position include but are not limited to; greeting the public and visitors to the office, answering multi-line telephone system, routing calls, taking messages, responding to questions about the department’s activities and collecting registration fees for the programs offered through the Parks and Recreation Department.  This position is paid minimum wage 7.25 per hour and is scheduled to work up to 21 hours per week including weekend and evening hours.

The Sumter County Board of Commissioners is seeking qualified applicants to fill the position of Assistant Public Works Director. Salary is commensurate based on experience, qualifications and an equitable compensation and pay plan.
 

This position is responsible for managing, supervising, and coordinating assigned programs and activities within the Public Works Department including technical duties related to roads and bridges, draining systems, heavy equipment maintenance and project development for TIA/TSPLOST; coordinates assigned activities with other divisions and outside agencies; provides highly responsible and complex administrative support to the Public Works Director as they relate to TIA/SPLOST.  Minimum requirements include knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of baccalaureate degree in Civil Engineering, Engineering Management or a related Engineering course of study related to the occupational field; experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the diverse objectives and functions of the subunits in the division/department in order to direct and coordinate work within the division/department, usually interpreted to require three to five years of related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.  possession or ability to readily obtain valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.

This position is responsible for protecting lives and property endangered by fires and other emergency situations.  Minimum requirements include; Be at least 18 years of age, not have been convicted of a felony in any jurisdiction within ten years prior to employment/appointment, have a good moral character as determined by investigation under procedure approved by Human Resources, be fingerprinted and a search made of local, state and national fingerprint files to disclose any criminal record (Criminal background check), possess a high school diploma or a GED, obtain National Professional Qualifications (NPQ) Firefighter I certification within 6 months of employment, possession of State of Georgia Firefighter certification or the ability to obtain reciprocity within 2 months of employment, possession of a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia.  This license is required to be upgraded to a Class F license within 90 days of hire date.  Proof of requirements must be provided at time of applying.

The Sumter County Board of Commissioners office is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Geographic Information Systems Internship (Summer 2017).
 

Qualifications:       Applicants must be undergraduate freshmen, sophomore, juniors, or seniors, or graduate students in public administration, political science or a related field. Applicants should have high attention to detail; be able to work well as part of a team or perform tasks independently; possess exceptional oral and written communication, research and organizational skills; demonstrate an ability to work well with a broad range of government and elected officials; present a professional appearance; be prompt and reliable; have experience with computers (e.g. Microsoft applications, database and spreadsheets) 

Responsibilities:    This position is responsible for assisting the Mapper operating the county’s GIS database and mapping support services. This would include constructing a detailed site map and GIS database for Sumter County’s Regional Park Complex. This information would not only be useful for management of the facility and with future growth of the complex, but would also help 911 emergency responders get to the appropriate area of the complex quickly when called. Fieldwork is required.  Candidates should be team-oriented, self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision.  

Term: Part-time / 10- week period (May 15, 2017 – July 21, 2017)     
 

Work Hours: The Intern will be required to maintain a regular weekly schedule during office hours and will work a minimum of 20 hours a week.

Compensation:  $10.00 per hour. No benefits.
