1. What types of cases does the Office of the Circuit Public Defender provide representation for?

Criminal cases being prosecuted in the Superior Courts of all the counties in the circuit as well as in the State Court of Sumter County.

Juvenile delinquency cases being prosecuted in the Juvenile Courts of all counties in the circuit.

Probation revocation proceedings in the Superior Courts of all the counties in the circuit as well as in the State Court of Sumter County.

Direct appeals of the types of cases listed above.

2. What types of cases are not covered by the Office of the Circuit Public Defender?

Many other types of criminal or quasi criminal cases, including, but not limited to:

Contempt cases (such as failure to pay court-ordered child support)

Temporary protective orders, restraining orders, peace bonds, and the like

Juvenile deprivation cases

Appeals after the initial (or direct) appeal

Habeas Corpus proceedings

Matters dealing with conditions of confinement or credit for time served issues
